ABOUT OUR UNIQUE TREE PLANTING PROGRAM
The BDA Enhancing Community and Reforestation Program™ is a sustainable tree planting program: Buy a tree and sponsor the local family for successfully nurturing your tree
PLANTING TREES IS NOT ENOUGH
Why Most Programs Don't Work
Many programs focus only on the amount of trees planted, but this has no impact on protecting biodiversity or enhancing local community livelihood. While planting trees is an important step towards combating climate change and preserving our natural environment, it is not a complete solution on its own.

Reasons why:
-
Trees take time to grow: It can take years, even decades, for newly planted trees to grow and mature to the point where they can start making a significant impact on carbon sequestration and other environmental benefits. As they grow, they are vulnerable to conditions that can hinder their growth and survival.
-
Tree species selection: It is important to select the right tree species for the local environment and climate conditions to ensure that they can thrive and provide maximum benefits. Planting non-native species or inappropriate species can have unintended consequences, such as causing soil erosion or becoming invasive and competing with native species.
-
Maintenance and management: Trees require ongoing care and maintenance to ensure that they continue to grow and provide benefits. Without proper management, the trees may not survive or may not provide the intended benefits.
-
Addressing the root causes of deforestation: Planting trees alone cannot address issues such as unsustainable agricultural practices, mining, and logging. These activities must be addressed to prevent further deforestation and habitat loss.
While planting trees is an important step, it should be part of a broader strategy that promotes sustainable practices and includes ongoing management and monitoring.
OUR DIFFERENCE
We Do More Than Just Plant Trees
The BDA Tree Planting Program™ not only focuses on planting trees, but on supporting the ongoing maintenance of every tree and improving the lives of the local community. Our program is a tool for combating deforestation, preserving biodiversity, and alleviating poverty in Africa.

-
Tree Selection: Scientific committees and data will be used for the selection of the native trees to be planted in order to protect the local biodiversity
-
Training: Each community member who registers to plant a tree will first be required to attend a training session on sustainable development, climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable tree planting practices.
-
Families are Hired and Paid for Planting and Maintenance: Each tree is given a barcode and GPS data to enable us to track its location, growth, and health. The local individuals responsible for planting and nurturing the trees are financially rewarded per year for demonstrating their successful maintenance of the trees for a 5 year period, providing revenues on a annual basis for each tree planted.
-
Local Startup Fund for Economy Development: For each dollar paid to the planter, a similar amount is set apart to create a Sustainable Development Startup Fund to finance loans for local economic projects compatible with the conservation of the forest and ensure sustainable economic development for the local population.
-
Communication and Promotion: A communication program including social media, interviews, and photos to promote the local population and embrace their planting role. This will provide them with a sense of responsibility and pride.
-
Liaison with Local Stakeholders: Global coordination with local steering committee and government in order to improve the global community commitment

OVERVIEW
BDA Enhancing Community and Reforestation Program includes:
-
Scientific agroforestry selection of indigenous trees to be planted.
-
Setting up of a specific plant nursery for those indigenous trees.
-
Scientific socio-economic and environmental baseline and setup of criterias to be evaluated and documented during the program.
-
Planting from 250,000 to 500,000 indigenous trees: All trees to be planted by local population living on the Reserve as well as in the surrounding villages of the Reserve.
-
25,000 Planters are selected, divided in 4 years cohorts, and offer a capacity building seminar on sustainable method for tree planting, the role of the forest to mitigate climate change and the importance to preserve biodiversity.
-
Each planter is hired and paid for planting/monitoring trees that he planted over a period of 5 years, all trees are identified by their respective unique bar code and GPS location
-
For each dollar paid to the planter, a similar amount is set apart to create a Sustainable Development Startup Fund to finance loans for local economic projects compatible with the conservation of the forest and ensure sustainable economic development for the local population.
-
Ongoing media/picture/videos/interviews capturing the local population embracing their planting role and supervising over the year the growth of each labelled/bar coded tree.
-
Monitoring with MAB: “Man and the Biosphere” from UNESCO.
-
Monitoring from the Ministry of Environment of the Province.
